How to Sell a Timeshare
Let’s say the time has come for you and your timeshare to part ways, what’s the best way to sell your timeshare? Unfortunately, the first thing you will need to come to terms with is that your timeshare probably isn’t worth as much as you paid for it, unless you bought a used timeshare. It’s believed that about 50% of the cost of a new timeshare goes to the marketing department! If you’re a fan of getting freebies from timeshare presentations, you’ve been the lucky recipient of those dollars!
The first step is to go to timeshare reseller websites and do a little research to find out how much yours is worth. If you want to sell no matter what, you can skip this step. You may find that the value of your timeshare is so low you’re tempted to keep it. By doing this research, you don’t waste your time sending your personal details and timeshare details to agents.
Once you’ve done the ground work, it’s time to sell. Selling a timeshare isn’t much different than selling any other asset, so you should try every avenue from Craigslist, in your area and the area of the timeshare, to a timeshare reseller. Each has its advantages and drawbacks.
For example, selling on Craigslist is free whereas a timeshare reseller is going to want a commission. However, going to a reseller means you have someone advocating the sale of your property while on Craigslist you just have yourself. Finally, remember to try the sales office of the timeshare, if they still have one. If they do, your chances are best there because that’s where people go first if they want to buy – the sales office!
Good luck!
